When I was a child my mom taught me a mono printing technique using shaving cream and food coloring. We would start by filling a large flat try with shaving cream and smoothing the top with a flat edge. Then we'd add drops of food coloring to the surface of the shaving cream. Next, using a variety of tools we'd swirl and smear the dots of color to create a pattern. When happy with the design we would then place a piece of paper over it and press it into the colorful surface of the shaving cream. Finally, the excess cream is scraped from the surface of the paper to reveal the mono print. This method of printing is super fun, so I decided to attempt to replicate it sustainably. I made whipped cream and homemade tempera paints and sought to manipulate the color to depict scenes. However, the sustainable materials did not preform as intended and I ended up with visually unreadable prints. So, in one last effort to save this project I cut all the prints into one inch squares and arranged them into 2 much more appealing collages.
